I've spent the better part of my day off writing a mock memo for my Public Administration class and reading 200+ pages on employee motivation. Fact or fiction? Fact! Today's haiku is nothing more than a pity party for me.
My eyes are so dry
Have I covered my bases
I forsake Maslow

Is it Ironic or Moronic?
This weekend we are packing up the van and heading North. How far North? Oh, about 7 hours in a van with two kids North. Apparenly the unrelenting snow (with more in the forecast for Chicago next week) wasn't enough for us. We feel compelled to drive to some place where we know there is even MORE snow!
My sister and her family, including her two precious kids not much younger than my own, built a house in Northern Michigan last year amidst what could only be referred to as a complete and utter shit storm.
To briefly recap:
Put house in Ann Arbor on the market in August 2006 (it is still on the market)
Start building a house next to in-laws on land that was basically deeded into their possession via a verbal agreement
Father-in-Law dies
Army Corp of Engineers stops building process until more permits are obtained
Discover Father-in-Law has no insurance or will- but, BONUS, he owns a saw mill no one knows about
Etc., etc., etc.
To say my sister has been through some challenges in the last year or two is an understatement. Oh, did I mention she has to do all of her shopping at a Super Walmart? I figure the least I can do is visit her in the tundra in her brand new house on a lake. It is right up her alley. It is as close to going off the grid that I think can be reasonible obtained and still be able to send your kids to Catholic school. It wouldn't matter if she lived on Mars I would still make the trip. I would just complain about it more.

For the Love of God, Make it Stop!
I've lived in the Mid-West my entire life and the older I get I become increasingly aware of my Mid-Western-ness when I visit other places. It is hard to explain. So, I should be used to the weather by now but sweet baby Jesus this winter is killing me.
Today Tom fired up the snow blower and proceeded to throw slush around. This is the sixth or seventh time this winter we have used it which is, by our calculations, 4 times as often as we have used it ever... or at least in the five years we have owned it.
Tonight I don't hear the usual traffic sounds from either the cars on the streets or the airplanes overhead. The skies are silent and wet and grey and the streets look like a Slurpee truck overturned and has flooded the roadways. The only sound I hear is the now familiar hum of the snow blowers in the neighborhood.

Haiku how-are-you?
At the end of the day I want nothing more then to get a glimpse of the day my children have had; just the most simple utterance that would tell me something of how they have spent their last eight hours. After having been away from them all day I ache for this simple communication as crazy as it sounds. Today's haiku is a typical conversation we have in the car driving home.
How was your day babe
Did you play with your friend Jack
Stop kicking my seat

Haiku & Cubby Blue
I have a deep and abiding love for the Chicago Cubs. For whatever reason most of the women in my family do but none more than my Grandma Gipple did. This haiku has an important message for fans everywhere.
Only fifteen days
and then it's off to Mesa
This will be the year

It's More of a Haiku Wednesday
Admittedly the absence of work on Monday has screwed up my days of the week. Although that hasn't screwed up my week as badly as the phone call I received today. Presenting a Hai-spew for Henry.
Is this Henry's mom
He threw up at lunch today
Please come get him now

The things we ate while the kids were at Grandmas
The kids were at Grandma's for the weekend so Tom and I could finish some projects around the house. We did as much eating as working.
Saturday:
Ed's Potsticker House- I'll just say that the Sczhwan dishes had staying power
Late night tacos and a burrito from Mucho Gusto- the owner also runs a handy man business and has been to our house to fix our dryer
Sunday:
Potbelly for sandwiches and yes, our potbellies are coming along nicely
Smoque for a feast of ribs, mac and cheese, cornbread, fries, slaw, and baked beans all washed down with some Blue Moon
